If you are currently without health insurance, you may be eligible to enroll in your state’s new health insurance marketplace starting October 1. To help you shop and compare plans, we have created a Multiple Myeloma Insurance Questionnaire, which is a list of questions for you to consider when choosing a plan.
The Affordable Care Act created health insurance marketplaces (also sometimes called exchanges) that will sell insurance plans to the public, to help individuals and families access health insurance coverage. To be offered in an marketplace, the insurance plans must provide coverage for a minimum amount of services referred to as the essential health benefits and must meet other requirements related to benefits and costs. These requirements will help ensure that the plans provide comprehensive, high quality insurance coverage for individuals and their families.
To begin searching for plans offered in your local marketplace, please see https://www.healthcare.gov/marketplace/individual/. From there, select your state and you will see information on how to access the appropriate marketplace and learn more about the plans offered and their costs. While enrollment begins on October 1, the new insurance plans will not take effect until January 1. It is important to understand that if you already have health insurance coverage through your job, a family member’s job or through Medicare, you DO NOT need to go through a marketplace to pick a new plan.
